Expanding To All Oregon Football Schools in 2017

The Oregon Chapter National Football Foundation (nfforegon.org) has recently e-mailed 227 Oregon high schools 6A-1A inviting them to nominate their senior football scholar-athletes from the fall 2017 season. To be eligible to be named a scholar-athlete for the 2017 season, a football player must have been carrying a 3.0 cumulative grade point average going into their senior year. They must be selected by their league coaches as a 1st or 2nd Team All-League Athlete. Last year, for the fall of 2016, we received over 90 applications for the distinction of Oregon National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. Our national finalist that we sent to the National Football Foundation Headquarters (see www.footballfoundation.org) was Brett Traeger from Kennedy High School. Brett has gone on to play football at Western Oregon University during the fall of 2017.

Similar to last year, we will nominate another national candidate for the High School Football Scholar-Athlete of The Year from the state of Oregon. If selected to represent the Western Region Chapters of the NFF, this athlete will be invited to attend the national banquet held the first week of December in New York City. This is at the same time as the College Football Hall of Fame nominees are inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The National Football Foundation supports the College Football Hall of Fame. I encourage all senior football players who have a great combination of Athletic honors, Academic Honors, and Leadership Honors to apply for this year’s awards recognition ceremony. This dinner banquet will be held at the Red Lion Hotel on the River at Jantzen Beach, Portland on February 25th, 2018. The banquet and dinner will start at 5pm and tickets and tables can be purchased ahead of time on our website. You can send your application to us at P.O. Box 1811, Wilsonville, OR. 97070. Applications have been mailed to all schools as of November 20th, 2017 and are due by Monday, January 8th, 2018. Please see your Head Football Coach, Athletic Director, or Athletic Secretary for a copy of the application. Or you can send your e-mail request directly to me at gcrace@gmail.com and I will e-mail you a copy of the Scholar-Athlete application.

Best Wishes,
